Luggage

  • Travel bags should be loaded and pressed into corners of the car
    >> remember that you’ll have to continually search for objects in them
  • Put your bags in spots that are easily accessible
    >> objects that are easy to find save time and energy
  • Wrap and cover your luggage in garbage bags
    >> prevents dust and splash water
  • Bags should have certain distinctive signs to make them easy to identify
    >> helps to find the right item at the baggage carousel
  • Bags fitted additional with luggage straps and locks
    >> added security

 Money

  • Master/ Visa are no problem – monthly limit should be considered
    >> important, for example when placing a deposit at a car rental company
  • EC/EFTPOS are not generally recognized – trav. checks are impractical
    >> not every town has a bank, with regular trading hours
  • Store cash in different places
  • Keep coins for parking attendants on hand

Security

  • Travel body bags (to be worn underneath clothing)
    >> are well suited for passports, driving licenses, bank notes
  • Scan important documents in advance and send them to yourself by mail
    >> everyone has access to copies at internet cafes

  • Hepatitis A vaccination
  • Current Polio vaccine
  • Current Tetanus vaccination
  • It is advised to carry Malaria tablets (Malerone)
    >> while travelling through northernNamibiain the rainy season
    >> contact a doctor
  • Vitamin B tablets should be taken during the trip
    >> note the recommended dosage
    >> keeps out mosquitoes (and sometimes the partner)
  • Vitamin C tablets are recommended
    >> fruit and vegetable on offer are not like in the Garden of Eden
  • Mosquito repellent (NoBite – Globetrotter) for body and textiles
    >> for mosquito season from February to April in theCaprivi Stripand Kavango

Cell phone

  • Mobile network coverage is provided throughout the country
  • Resorts normally have WiFi (3G) – but not stable everytime

Documents

  • Passport must be valid for 6 months
  • Re-entry stamp should be checked immediately
    >> longest period of stay is 30 days without visa
  • International Driving Permit is recommended
    >> as it is required at road checks
